Conditions to Fulfill
To obtain recognition of a three-year period, you must meet certain training requirements and satisfy the following conditions:
- be at least 18 years of age and authorized to work in Canada;
- be able to be present at the home childcare service for all the hours of childcare, except in cases when you must be absent occasionally or in case of emergency;
- show the ability to communicate and establish a friendly relationship with the children;
- show the ability to collaborate with the parents and the Coordinating Office;
- have the physical and mental health necessary to provide childcare;
- be capable of offering a childcare environment that ensures the health, safety and well-being of the children;
- have sufficient space in your residence for the number and age of the children;
- provide childcare services in a private residence where childcare services are not already provided;
- be capable of leading and supervising children’s activities to implement the educational program;
- hold a certificate not older than three years attesting successful completion of a minimum eight-hour general first aid course or a minimum 6-hour refresher course updating the knowledge acquired as part of the general first aid course. Effective April 1, 2016, the first aid course must be adapted to early childhood and include a component on the management of severe allergic reactions or the refresher course updating the same knowledge;
- If you do not hold a college or university diploma in early childhood education, have completed 45 hours of training within the three years preceding the application for recognition. This condition does not apply to those who are already recognized.
- be covered by a civil liability insurance policy for an amount of at least $1,000,000 per claim. The coverage of this insurance policy must extend to:
- your activities as a home childcare provider;
- the activities of the adult who assists you;
- the activities of your replacements;
- show that your and the persons residing in your residence:
- do not have an impediment related to the abilities and the conduct required for home childcare;
- that these persons will not impede the carrying out of your responsibilities;
- that these persons will not constitute a moral or physical danger for the children to whom you intend to provide childcare.
